This is the blog of a once athletic and now overweight girl trudging through the trenches to regain her health, endurance and overall fitness. Having already lost over 120 lbs, I hope to encourage others, not only with the things I have learned through my mental and physical journey, but also inspire and provide tips toward conquering your own mountain and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

It was one of those nights.  We all know the ones, the night where you tell yourself you will workout in 10 min…15 min…an hour and it feels as though it never feels like the right time to just get up and start.

That was my night at first.  After a while I decided I was just not going to do it and take my shower instead, but as I was leaving the room, I glanced back and looked at my new barbell and had a change of heart.  Sometimes that is all you need, a moment of reflection to remind yourself WHY you are doing this and what the journey means to you.  We all need reaffirmation and a reminder of our purpose from time to time.

For me, this is many things; I was to be able to love myself for more than simply my intellect, caring personality, love for others, ambition and determination.  No, I want to love the WHOLE me, body AND mind.  I am happily well on my way, but there is always some self loathing, some moments where I peer at myself in the mirror and I am still not happy and I know I am not complete.  I don’t hate myself, but I am definitely not where I want to be yet.

Even when I do complete my weight loss goals, the journey is not yet over, because in life, we can ALWAYS form new goals to become a better, stronger person both on the inside and outside.

So tonight I ended up giving my workout everything I had.  I skipped on burpees tonight because my stomach was hurting quite badly and they tend to make me dizzy, but I skimped on nothing else.  I mixed an upper body weight training workout with a mix of cardio.  It went something like this after my stretch:

Two Rounds

-Sprint - 2:30min

-High Knees - 1:00min

-Sprint - 1:30min

-20lb Barbell Squats - 15

-Standard Push-Ups - 10

-20lb Lying Down Tricep Extensions - 15

-Wide Fly Push-Ups - 10

-Switch Kicks - 50 (each leg)

-Standard Push-Ups - 10

-Wall Lunges - 15 (each leg)

-Wide Fly Push-Ups - 10

-10lb Overhead Extensions - 15

-Standard Push-Ups - 10

-Power Knees - 50 (each leg)

The sprinting and high knees was part of my warmup, but I ended up doing it in between both rounds anyhow.  This was very similar to my other HIIT routine, but I wanted to make things almost all upper body, mainly triceps and back, this time.  My triceps are one of my biggest problem areas that I am attempting to conquer.

I am curious what motivates you and helps you keep moving, answer one of these questions and I will add some of the best with a link to you in a future blog.  What do you do to get yourself going?  How do you make yourself get up to workout even when you are lacking motivation?  What are your reasons for continuing this journey; any specific goals?  What are you most proud of conquering so far?

I actually fell off the band wagon for about a month and a half due to being sick and then fear of starting over. But...
